In 2020, Legal Aid’s Servant of Justice Awards Dinner was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, the Dinner was held virtually and we were able to celebrate Servant of Justice honorees John Heintz of Blank Rome and Avis Buchanan of the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia, who would have been honored in 2020.
The Dinner raised $1.45 million for Legal Aid, thanks to all of our sponsors and to the collective efforts of co-chairs Sheila Cheston of Northrop Grumman, Nadira Clarke of Baker Botts, Brandon Gay of The Carlyle Group, and Yousri Omar of Amazon.
Servant of Justice Honorees Acceptance REmarks
This year, Second Gentleman of the United States Douglas Emhoff gave special remarks during the Dinner. And we also honored Community Advisory Council member and Legal Aid client Cynthia Spencer with the Partnership Award.
